About Cermat

Spending Clarity, Built on Respect

Our mission is simple: give people in Malaysia a calm, structured space to understand where money goes — without any trace of shame or pressure.

Our Story

Why Cermat Exists

Cermat grew from a straightforward observation: many Malaysians have a rough sense that their spending could be more intentional, but they have no calm, structured place to explore that without judgement. Existing options tended toward either dense financial advice or generic budgeting apps that simply add more noise.

Founded in Kuala Lumpur, Cermat was designed as an education provider — not an advisory service. The name itself comes from the Malay word for careful and thorough attention. That spirit runs through everything we do: sessions that move at a human pace, materials that support rather than overwhelm, and a format that invites reflection rather than demanding compliance.

Today, Cermat offers three spending awareness programmes from our office in Menara Southpoint, Mid Valley City. Each one is built around the same principle: that noticing comes before adjusting, and that small, considered changes last longer than dramatic ones.

How We Work

Our Standards and Approach

Participant Privacy

Personal financial details are never collected, shared, or stored. Cermat is an education environment, not a financial service provider.

Education-Only Scope

All content is framed as general financial education and information. Cermat does not provide regulated financial advice of any kind.

Small Group Sizes

Sessions are kept deliberately small so that each participant has room to reflect and engage without feeling lost in a crowd.

Reviewed Curriculum

Programme materials are reviewed and updated regularly to stay relevant to everyday spending patterns in the Malaysian context.

Supportive Facilitation

Facilitators are trained to guide, not instruct. The tone in every session stays calm, open, and fully respectful of each participant's starting point.

Confidential Environment

Group discussions operate under a shared understanding of confidentiality. What is shared in session stays in session.

Our Values in Practice

What Spending Awareness Education Means at Cermat

Spending awareness is not about cutting back sharply or following a rigid formula. It is about developing a clearer picture of what is actually happening with everyday money — and then having enough perspective to decide whether small adjustments feel right. Cermat's programmes are built around that sequence: notice first, then consider, then adjust where it makes sense to you.

The Spending Awareness Workshop is the most accessible entry point — a focused half-day that gives participants their first structured look at spending categories and common patterns. It suits people who are curious but not yet ready to commit to a longer programme. The category guide and review worksheet sent home afterwards give the session a life beyond the room.

For those who want to build an ongoing review habit, the Notice and Adjust Programme offers five weeks of steady, supported practice. Participants develop a personal weekly review routine, learn to spot small leaks in their outgoings without alarm, and make gradual adjustments at their own pace. The small support circles that form within each cohort often continue beyond the programme itself.

The Spending Awareness Foundations Course is Cermat's most thorough offering — ten weeks that cover review routines, category systems, tracking tools at an educational level, and the psychological patterns that sit behind spending. It is designed for people who want a deep, well-rounded understanding rather than a quick fix. Materials access continues after the course concludes, so learning does not stop when sessions do.

All three programmes are delivered in English at our office in Menara Southpoint, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur — a convenient location in a calm, professional setting. Cermat does not offer financial planning services, investment advice, or any form of regulated financial guidance. We are an education provider, and that boundary is one we hold clearly and consistently.
